In or about the year 1930/31 Bernhard with a friend Arthur Litke decidedto go to Germany. While crossing the border into Poland they werearrested and were told that if they did not return to Russia they would be held as apies. They returned to Russia and
were arrested and sentencedto 15 years hard labour in a gold mine in the Murmansk area. It isassumed that they died there. This was reported by Richard Baier inHamburg, Germany in 1980.
