CASE NUMBER:  05-2797
DATE:  March 21, 2005
LOCATION:  Goshen
INVOLVED:  Ordeman-Pratt, Helen Jean 07-01-63
White female, 5’08, 130 lbs, blond shoulder length hair, brown eyes, 3 inch scar on her face and pierced belly button.
DETAILS:  On March 23,2005, Steven Pratt reported his wife missing from their Goshen residence.  Helen Ordeman-Pratt walked away from her residence  and left  behind her purse, medication, cell phone and other personal items.  Ordeman-Pratt has a history of depression and anxiety that requires medication.
Anyone who may have had contact with Ordeman-Pratt since March 21, 2005 is asked to contact the Lane County Sheriff was found in the garage of her home had attempted suicide as many as 10 times and suffered from depression that could be overwhelming, her husband said Wednesday.

Steven Eugene Pratt said his wife, Helen Jean Ordeman-Pratt, 41, most likely overdosed on Benadryl and the dog's phenobarbital.
"It's obvious she took her own life," he said in a telephone interview. "She had a wonderful heart but a bad mind, and the two conflicted."
Ordeman-Pratt disappeared March 21 from the Goshen home she shared with her husband. He reported her missing two days later.
A hired hand found the woman's decomposed body Sept. 6 while cleaning a detached garage on the property. The body was in the unfinished attic of the garage. A plastic bag was over her head.
Lane County sheriff's investigators said an autopsy conducted over the weekend found no evidence of trauma or injury on her body.
The cause of death is classified as "undetermined" while detectives await results of toxicology tests, Sgt. Rene Stone said Wednesday.
Steven Pratt, 50, said investigators have told him that he is a suspect in his wife's death, something the sheriff's office would not confirm.
Pratt is an emergency room nurse at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene.
A search warrant affidavit written by sheriff's Detective Mike Lamb and filed in Lane County Circuit Court says Pratt agreed to a polygraph test in April, and that he was being truthful when he said he did not know the cause of his wife's disappearance.
Pratt said Wednesday he had nothing to do with his wife's death.
"I told them to come out with both barrels blazing because I am innocent," he said. "I spent 10 years of my life and hundreds of thousands of dollars trying to save her.
"I don't even step on spiders. I'm a caregiver, not a killer."
Pratt said he had no idea his wife's body was in the garage attic and he never detected an odor. He said the attic held insulation, mice and bees. "I never suspected Helen of going up there," he said.
He said his wife had been going through a difficult time. She had dreams of being a nurse but couldn't complete the required math courses. He said he gave her the space she needed to find whatever would make her happy.
"Helen was searching really hard for herself and for her career," he said. "She was job hunting, hopping around."
About six months before she disappeared, Ordeman-Pratt rented a small house in Albany to be closer to a son from another marriage.
She wanted a last chance to be a mother to him, Pratt said. Even though she was often away from the house on First Street in Goshen, "this was home," he said.
Pratt said his wife often went walking, so he wasn't surprised when she left on March 21 without her keys, purse, cellular phone or medication. He became worried when she hadn't called or returned two days later.
Deputies searched the Goshen property after he reported her missing, he said. The search warrant affidavit confirms that deputies searched the property "extensively."
According to the search warrant affidavit, the hired hand who discovered the body had started working and living at Pratt's property on Aug. 30. He told a detective that he noticed a strong smell coming from the garage even though he and a friend had removed all the garbage.
The hired man said he pulled down a ladder that was attached to the ceiling of the garage with a nail. He climbed up to the attic and found the body.
Investigators also spoke with a waitress at a restaurant Ordeman-Pratt frequented. The waitress said she saw Ordeman-Pratt six days before her husband reported her missing. She said the woman appeared upset and told her that she needed to leave town "or he is going to kill me." The affidavit does not say whether Ordeman-Pratt said who "he" was.
According to the affidavit, Pratt told detectives that his wife had financial problems and had begun forging his checks before her disappearance. Investigators confirmed a history of mental illness and financial troubles, the affidavit said.
Pratt said his life has become "hell on earth" since his wife died.
The pair met in 1995 when Ordeman-Pratt came to the Sacred Heart emergency room for treatment. She returned a few days later to thank him for his care. They ended up spending four days together and married a year later.
"I fell hopelessly in love with her, and I still am," he said. "This is not something I'd wish on anyone."
