GEDCOM submitters have the option of whether to allow visitors to their WorldConnect site to download portions of their GEDCOM http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/tips/tip-06.html Perhaps you would like to allow others to download a portion of your file but are concerned that someone might use your information as his own by adding it to his file without giving you proper credit for compiling the data and sources, or for authorship of the notes.

Item #21 on the Advanced set-up page, "Message for Individuals in Downloaded GEDCOM," can be used to create a message that will serve to mark each entry in the GEDCOM. You can put any message you would like to share with those who download your data. You might wish to state that the original information you have contributed to the database is to be used for private research only and/or your name, e-mail address, a phone number or mailing address. The choices are yours.
