WORLDCONNECT TIP:
WHAT HAPPENS TO POST-EMS WHEN GEDCOMS ARE UPDATED?
What Happens if there are Post-em Notes
Attached to a WorldConnect GEDCOM when it is Updated?
Q. In a recent ROOTSWEB REVIEW, two items raised a question. One
described how to update our GEDCOM at WorldConnect and the other
mentioned Post-em Notes that can be attached to WorldConnect
files. What happens if there are Post-em Notes attached to a
WorldConnect GEDCOM when it is updated? Are the Post-ems lost?
A. When you update your GEDCOM on WorldConnect, in most cases
Post-em Notes attached to your file are not disturbed. Post-ems
are maintained in a separate database from your file. They
attach to an individual's record in your file by means of that
individual's ID number.
Most genealogy programs do not renumber the individuals in a
file when the database is amended, and provided this is true of
your program, your Post-em Notes will still be attached to the
correct individual in your file once your new file is uploaded.
If you remove the record of an individual to whose ID number a
Post-em Note was attached, the Post-em will continue to exist,
but it will not be attached to anything.
