WORLDCONNECT TIP:
Keep Your Contact Address Current

You have spent years gathering data and verifying information. You have proudly submitted your family tree (as a GEDCOM file) to WorldConnect http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/ in the hope that you will be contacted by cousins, who are sure to find you through WorldConnect's Global Search. Somewhere along the line your e-mail address changed. Did you remember to update your WorldConnect account to reflect your new address?

One of the most frequent questions we receive from those who search WorldConnect is how to contact the submitter of a file when the e-mail address found in that file is no longer valid. It is frustrating for those who wish to contact you to add their branch to your family tree, compare and share data, or simply make contact with a new-found cousin, when they reach a dead-end because your file points to an obsolete e-mail address. If you find yourself on the receiving end of the invalid e-mail address problem, see http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/FAQ/badaddress.html

A previous WorldConnect Tip explains the "how to" aspects of updating your e-mail address for your account: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/tips/tip-18.html For information on changing your e-mail address for all RootsWeb services, see http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/FAQ/address.html

If you know you are about to change your e-mail address but you do not remember your WorldConnect account password, request it from Password Central http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ BEFORE your old address is discontinued, because your password will be sent only to the address under which your file is registered. If your old address is already invalid and you need your password to update your address, follow the instructions regarding dead e-mail addresses located at Password Central.
