John Henry Richardsonb was born in Liverpool, England in 1875. During his John Henry Richardsonb was born in Liverpool, England in 1875. During hischildhood he kept and cared for carrier pigeons. He completed aknowledgeable education there. As a young boy he daily visited the docks and always observed the emigrants departing for Canada on the big ships.This thought was forever in his young mind. At the age of 14 years he didsuccessfully stowaway in the hold of a ship(name unknown). This shipbrought him to the promised land of Canada in 1889. Upon arriving in Montreal, Quebec, he began looking for a job. That yearthere was a demand for labourers by the Canadian National Railway. Hedid get work, an assortment of jobs, sometimes for room and board as pay. He worked his way to Manitoba by working for farmers, bush work, loggingand also on the railroad. He eventually became a section foreman for theC.N.R.. At sometime during his work in Dauphin, he heard of land aplenty north ofDauphin. He bought the north-west quarter of Section 12, Township 29,Range 19W, in the early 1900's in what became the Mowat School District, near Fork River. He continued working on therailroad during the week and on the farm on week-ends. His first housewas a log cabin which he and his brother Tom built. It was replaced by aframe structure a few years later. He married Marion Beatrice Hafenbrak in 1907. He was a section foremanthen and they lived in Laurier, McCreary and Winnipegosis. At Fork Riverthey lived on the farm, eventually leaving the railroad to farm full time, where the family of seven children grew. All the children went tothe Mowat School. Mrs. Richardson passed away in 1920. Mr. Richardson never married again.He raised his young family with the help from relatives and hired help.Mr Richardson lived on the same farm until he retired. He did all the field work with horsepower. They were hard times, especially in the"dirty 30's". There must have been a lot of bare cupboards in those days.With a garden, wild berries and wild game the farmers made it through thehard times. Mr Richardson sold his farm to his son Bert after World War II. Hethen bought a small acerage beside the Fork River and built a two-roomframe house with the help from sons James and Bert. That was his homeuntil he died in 1953. Mr Richardson was "Uncle Jack" to the young people who grew up in the20's and 30's, from Winnipegosis, Fork River and the Mowat districts.Anyone who attended dances in those days will always remembering himcalling the square dances.

Robert Henry "Bob" Richardson, 76, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 1996 Robert Henry "Bob" Richardson, 76, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 1996in Deer Lodge Centre, Winnipeg after a lenghty illness. He is survived byhis loving wife Pauline, Winnipeg, five children, Robbie (Rebecca), Calgary. Carol(Jack) Hyman, Winnipeg. Donald (Kim) Winnipeg. Ken,Winnipeg and Barb (Rick) Snyder, Edmonton; Ten grandchildren, David, Nicholas, Erin,Matthew, Jake, Seth, Jennifer, Jesse, Riley and Suzanne; two sisters, Hattie Jones Winnipeg andBeatrice Dewbury, Dauphin. Bob is predeceased by his parents, John Henryand Marion Richardson, who were homesteading pioneers at Fork River in the Dauphin area; four brothers, Bert, John, Jim and Frank; grandaughterNicole. Bod was born and raised in Fork River. He served overseas with the X11Manitoba Dragoons in England and Northwest Europe in the Second WorldWar. Following discharge he married Pauline Adamek in Winnipeg, where he was employed with Air Canada and for 28 years to retirement with SeawayMidwest Livingston, a Winnipeg shipping firm. A kind, gentle, soft spoken and thoughtful person, Dad will always beremembered as a loving family man who at all times put family first. Heloved his garden and fishing. Cremeation has taken place, A memorial service will be held at 1:30p.m., October 4, 1996 at the Deer Lodge Centre Chapel, with Rev. Barbara Barnett officiating.
