Wolfgang Fritz Rump (M)
b. 01 Dec 1937, #1
Pedigree

Wolfgang Fritz Rump was also known as Wolfgang Fred Rump; This became my official name at naturalization when they ask you which name you wish or if you wish to make any changes. So Fritz became Fred. He was naturalized at US District Court House, Philadelphia, PA; Fritz was officially changed to Fred. Later difficulties with Wolfgang also begat the use of W. Fred as the officially used given name.1 He was also known as W. Fred Rump; After service in the US Army (Oct 1956 to Oct 1959) entering the workplace created its own problems with the name WOLFGANG. It came out as almost being a member of the wolf gang. Spelling Wolfgang was also a problem for many people. W. Fred and the use of Fred as a normal given name was therefore an easier path to take. It became a gradual conversion and by the 1970s everyone knew me as Fred. He was born on 1 December 1937 at Elbing, East Prussia, Germany. He is the son of Gustav Karl Fritz Rump and Luise Amalie Robiller. Wolfgang Fritz Rump was baptized on 25 December 1937 at St. Nickolei Church, Elbing, East Prussia, Germany. He immigrated on 5 June 1951 to Wentorf, Hamburg, DEU; As best as I recall we had to go to this camp for medical tests before we were ever approved for immigration. This seems to have taken place in June and December of 1951. A blood test was given on the the 5th and X-Rays on the 6th.2 Wolfgang Fritz Rump witnessed the residence of Gustav Karl Fritz Rump and Luise Amalie Robiller between 1952 and 1954 at 2817 N. Lawrence Street, Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA; Here we lived with a German-Hungarian man who needed help with housework and cooking because he had lost both his legs above the knees due to gangrene. My parents were able to save every penny they earned because they had to pay no rent. All we had to do was take care of this man and his house. Within two years they had enough money saved up for a downpayment on a house further north in a better neighborhood in St Henry's parish where I had gone to school anyway. We also belonged to that parish and went to church there.3 Wolfgang Fritz Rump immigrated on 4 March 1952 to Bremerhaven; USS Gen. Sturgis.4 Wolfgang Fritz Rump witnessed the immigration of Gustav Karl Fritz Rump and Luise Amalie Robiller on 12 March 1952; For some reason I always thought that we arrived on Mar. 15th but my father's notes take precedence on this until I find out otherwise.5 Wolfgang Fritz Rump witnessed the residence of Gustav Karl Fritz Rump and Luise Amalie Robiller on 15 March 1952 at 5009 N. 3rd Street, Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA; We lived at Theodore Ellerkamp's cleaning store in the back. They lived there till their deaths.19 Gustav Karl Fritz Rump From my father's own words written on 6/10/73 in connection with an insurance claim to receive retirement benefits from Germany.

I, Fritz Rump, came to Essen/Oldenburg in the first year of my life as the to be adopted son of Bernard Rump. I was born on June 14, 1906 in Neustadt, Kreis Ilfeld. From my 7th to my 15th year I went to the Volksschule (public school) in Essen. I then became a tailor apprentice for four years from 1921 to 1925 at the Brothers Lülfesmann in Quakenbrück/Hannover, Schiphorstsrasse 2.
On Jun 7th, 1925 I started on my journeyman's trip where I worked for many Master Tailors in order to learn my trade. I don't know all the places anymore but during the first two years I worked mostly as a journeyman tailor in the Southern area of Germany. First I spent about a half a year in Munich, then a half year in Aufkirch, Kr. Schöngau and/or Kaufbüren/Algäu, Bavaria. I thought it was Tailormaster Filsener. Then I worked in the old bishop city Freising/Bavaria for about 3 months. I think this was Tailormaster Kapp and we worked for the local Seminary. Then I worked for 3 months in the Black Forest in Tenningen. I think it was Kreis Emmendingen near Freiburg in the Breisgau. I then made my way towards the East and first worked in Marienburg, West Prussia at Tailormaster Friedrich Ehmann for about 3 years until 1930. Then I worked in Elbing, West Prussia, for Mastertailor Paul Weber on the Heiligen Geist Strasse until 1933. I then founded my own business in Dec, 1933 at Königsbergerstrasse 54 in Elbing. All this time I was covered by Social Security.

On Aug. 17, 1939 I was drafted into the German army. My unit was captured by the Russians in 1945 and I spent the next four years as a POW in various camps in Russia. They let me go on 25 Nov. 1948 to Essen/Oldnbg, where I had grown up. I worked there, until I emmigrated to the United States of America on 3/12/52, as an independent master tailor. I was not covered in this latter period (by social security). Today I'm living out my retirement here in America and I would be happy if my request for retirement benefits would be successful. A copy of my discharge paper is included herewith.

Sincerely,
Fritz Rump (655 Kirkwood Ave, Phila, PA 19111) on 6 October 1973. He died on 10 August 1976 at Abington Hospital, Montgomery, PA, at age 70. He was buried on 13 August 1976 at Rockledge, Abington Township, Montgomery, PA.

Luise Amalie Robiller was Ladies Tailor after 1922. She resided circa 1930 at 95-97 Tannenberger Allee, Elbing, Stadtkreis Elbing, Westpreußen, DEU; I'm really not sure when my grandfather bought the properties. There was always the story of him having lost everything during the Inflationary period while inebriated. Supposedly he sold his house for a considerable sum of money but inflation made it worthless in a few days or weeks. This was from my mother. She then claimed that he had to start all over again. Therefore the above circa 1930 date.1 Luise Amalie Robiller witnessed the baptism of Waltraud Hildegard Groß on 18 January 1930 at Heiligen Drei-Königen Kirche, Elbing, Westpreußen, DEU. Luise Amalie Robiller and Gustav Karl Fritz Rump resided from 1931 to 1935 at 42 Hindenburgstraße, Elbing, Stadtkreis Elbing, Westpreußen; In 1934 the house was owned by Landwirt (farmer) Kurt Drabe and my parents shared the house with him, Friedrich Lietke and the gardener Hermann Schulz. It was a first appartment for the young married couple and where my sister Anneliese was born.2 Luise Amalie Robiller married Gustav Karl Fritz Rump, son of Friedrich Theodore Karl Wienrich and Catherina Johanna Sophie Hämmerer, on 24 December 1931 at St Nickolei Church, Elbing, Ostpreußen, DEU; the marriage ceremony was at 2 PM and was officiated by a Rev. Luise Amalie Robiller and Gustav Karl Fritz Rump resided between 1936 and 1945 at 97 Tannenberger Allee, Elbing, Stadtkreis Elbing, Westpreußen; The street was earlier called Holländische Chaussee. Luise Amalie Robiller witnessed the baptism of Wolfgang Fritz Rump on 25 December 1937 at St. Nickolei Church, Elbing, East Prussia, Germany. Luise Amalie Robiller was baptized on 18 February 1950 at St Bartolomäus, Essen, Cloppenburg, Oldenburg, Germany; 'Bedingterweise katholisch getauft' by Pastor Kruse. This was a conversion to Catholicism from an earlier Lutheran baptism. It was concidered a conditional baptism - just in case so to speak.

I'm not sure if this was really out of conviction or for public consumption. My mother was never a really religious woman, but may have been in this situation because of the 'very' Catholic surroundings.3 Luise Amalie Robiller witnessed the emigration of Wolfgang Fritz Rump on 5 June 1951 at Wentorf, Hamburg, DEU; As best as I recall we had to go to this camp for medical tests before we were ever approved for immigration. This seems to have taken place in June and December of 1951. A blood test was given on the the 5th and X-Rays on the 6th.4 Luise Amalie Robiller and Gustav Karl Fritz Rump resided between 1952 and 1954 at 2817 N. We also belonged to that parish and went to church there.5 Luise Amalie Robiller witnessed the immigration of Wolfgang Fritz Rump on 4 March 1952 at Bremerhaven; USS Gen. Sturgis.6 Luise Amalie Robiller and Gustav Karl Fritz Rump immigrated on 12 March 1952; For some reason I always thought that we arrived on Mar. 15th but my father's notes take precedence on this until I find out otherwise.7 Luise Amalie Robiller and Gustav Karl Fritz Rump resided on 15 March 1952 at 5009 N. 3rd Street, Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA; We lived at Theodore Ellerkamp's cleaning store in the back. Later, in an appartment on the second floor.8
Luise Amalie Robiller and Gustav Karl Fritz Rump resided circa 1960 at 655 Kirkwood Ave., Abington/Phila, Abington, PA; This was my parents' little dream home in the suburbs. They lived there till their deaths.5 Luise Amalie Robiller died on 15 May 1985 at Jeanes Hospital, Montgomery, PA, at age 76. She was buried on 18 May 1985 at Rockledge, Abington Township, Montgomery, PA; Death notice published Thursday, May 16, 1985 in the Philadelphia Inquirer:

      Amanda Luise Nadeau (F)
      b. 16 Feb 1991, #9
      Pedigree

Amanda Luise Nadeau was born on 16 February 1991 at Mt Holly, NJ. She is the daughter of Richard George Nadeau and Angela Maria Rump. Amanda Luise Nadeau was educated on 9 May 1995 at Pre-School; Amanda's parents are working and after the first 3 years of baby-sitting by her Oma she was then able to go to a Montessori school where she learned the basics of letters and numbers by playing with these things. Learning is fun.

Today is Sept 9, 1995. I've not really written anything about Amanda's early life, but it is about time.

Amanda's first "report card" was issued on 2-16-95 and I'll try to record its substance here lest I lose the paper.

      Work Habits:

Excellent - Degree of self-motivation but only for things she's interested in
      Excellent - Self-confidence

Good - Ability to see work through to completion
Good - Ability to integrate new ideas
      Good - Academic enthusiasm

      Between Good & Satisfactory - Self-discipline

      Satisfactory - Attention/Concentration (for age)
      Satisfactory - Follows Directions
Satisfactory - Ability to work in a group (She is more imaginative than most, but has made strides lately)

Between Satisfactory & Needs Improvement - (She tends to wander, has trouble choosing on her own, needs to be coaxed to try a new thing)

      Comments:

Behavioral - Amanda is usually fairly self-controlled behaviorally. On occasion questions directions & direct requests of the teacher. She does take 'any' infringement by other children extremely personally.

Social/Emotional - Amanda makes friends easily and interacts with several children at a time.

Reading - Amanda is doing very well with seeing sound, rythms and xxx. She is ready to begin building words phonetically.

Math - Amanda has done well & has a solid base of 1-10. She is moving into the teen numerals & quantities.

Additional - Amanda has come far this year in her dealing with other children. She has made friends & is now learning how to interact with several friends at a time. Her imagination is rich & colorful, but not always understood by other children who can't sustain imaginative play to the extent that Amanda can. She's working this out now.

Her progress academically is good & she should be able to continue the growth next year.

She was educated on 6 March 1997 at Kindergarten-Westfield Friends School, Cinnaminson, NJ; !D:\TMGW\FRED\MEMOS\KINDER.TXT.

He was the son of Maximilian Carl Hämmerer and Bernadina Catharina Dorothea Feldhaus. Carl Friedrich Hämmerer married Gertrud Seger, daughter of Peter Seger and Katharina Hermann, on 21 October 1946 at Essen, Cloppenburg, Oldenburg, Germany.1 Carl Friedrich Hämmerer witnessed the baptism of Luise Amalie Robiller on 18 February 1950 at St Bartolomäus, Essen, Cloppenburg, Oldenburg, Germany; 'Bedingterweise katholisch getauft' by Pastor Kruse. This was a conversion to Catholicism from an earlier Lutheran baptism. It was concidered a conditional baptism - just in case so to speak.

I'm not sure if this was really out of conviction or for public consumption. My mother was never a really religious woman, but may have been in this situation because of the 'very' Catholic surroundings.2 Carl Friedrich Hämmerer died on 14 January 1982 at Essen, Cloppenburg, Oldenburg, Germany, at age 74.

Johanna Christina Henrietta Hämmerer Johanna came to America in 1865 and joined St James parish in 1866 in Baltimore where she remained until her death at 956 Aisquith Street.                                Herman Bernard Schagemann was also known as Bernard Schagemann.1,2,3 He was born on 9 August 1814 at Alfhausen, Hannover, Germany; So far there is no proof of his birth or baptism in Alfhausen. The church records there have not been checked yet.
The birth date comes from one Geraldine Idstein via Rick Reisch. For some unkown reason I had a date of 6/15/1815 which was probably in error.4,5 He immigrated circa 1842; Up to now this is an assumption based upon his death certificate which claims residence in Baltimore for 50 years at death. He may have lived elsewhere in the US before that. He did marry M.E. Sachs in Baltimore in 1843 which says something.6 He married Maria Elizabeth Sachs on 24 October 1843 at St James Church, Baltimore, MD; The Marriage Ledger at St James lists Bernhard from Hannover and Elizabeth Zach from the Oldenburgischen (area of the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg). There are no witnesses listed.7 Herman Bernard Schagemann was naturalized on 27 September 1848 at Baltimore, MD; Certificate No TS#12, Folio 327, US District Court Baltimore, MD
Witness was Ferdinand Klumper who married a Bernardine Mayer Oct 11, 1843 where Herman's fiancee E. Sachs was a witness. Herman then married on Oct 24. He was also known as Schagamann.8 He was This is cited in the Baltimore City directory of 1853/1854 as Bernard Schagamann.

It is not known if he worked from there too or worked for someone else. In 1858 at Tailor at 294 Aisquith St, Baltimore.1 He was Address may be in error as in prior and subsequent years he's listed as living at 294 Aisquith between 1858 and 1859 at Tailor at 291 Aisquith St., Baltimore, MD.10 Herman Bernard Schagemann witnessed the immigration of Johanna Christina Henrietta Hämmerer on 2 November 1865 at Baltimore, MD; The obituary and other sources all claim she came to Baltimore in 1865. There seems to be no proof of this anywhere. There is no entry in the federal passenger lists and now none in the Baltimore City Archives Passenger Index for Schagemann, Winkes or Hämmerer.

But there is an entry for Wienkes on the ship ANNA.11 Herman Bernard Schagemann was Tobacconist
His wife mary is listed as a milliner at the same address in the 1868 directory. Between 1868 and 1882 at 294 Aisquith St.2,3 He married Johanna Christina Henrietta Hämmerer, daughter of Clamor Ludwig Friedrich Hämmerer and Maria Catharina Henrietta Hellmann, on 23 September 1873 at St James Church, Baltimore; His birthplace is listed as Alphhausen/Hannover and her's as Kloppenburg/Oldenburg. Both were widowed at the time.12 Herman Bernard Schagemann was Book Agent
in 1892 at Baltimore.13 He died on 8 July 1892 at 956 Aisquith St, Baltimore, at age 77; A doctor F. A. Varner of 1133 Valley St was the attending physician signing the death certificate. Occupation at time of death was given as Book Agent.
Residence in the city as 50 years and the primary cause of death as Inflammatory Diarrhea with the immediate cause being peritonites.
